Picture a still lake early in the morning: a small boat, a line in the water, and nobody in any hurry. That slow, patient feeling is what a fishing nursery should give you every time you walk in to settle the baby.
Below are 18 fishing nursery ideas in four groups: little anglers and their grown-ups, bears who fish, animal anglers, and lakes, boats and fish. Each one comes with three colors and the prints that make it work. If you'd rather browse everything at once, you'll find all our fishing nursery decor in one place.

How to pull a fishing nursery together
I start every fishing nursery the same way, whoever ends up holding the rod.
- Put water on the wall. A lake, a river or a harbor gives the room its calm. Choose one print with plenty of water in it and build outward from there.
- Take three colors from that print. One for the walls, one for the big pieces and one accent. Each idea below lists three to start you off.
- Decide who's fishing. A dad, a grandpa, a boy and his dog, a bear or a fox. Sticking with one kind of character keeps a set of prints looking like it belongs together.
- Keep real tackle out. Hooks, line and lures stay in the garage. Let the art carry the theme, and keep the crib, rug and curtains simple.
Fishing nursery ideas with a little angler
1. Father and child fishing trip nursery idea
Nothing says fishing like a first trip with a parent. One print shows a dad and his son on a sunny bank, the boy holding up his catch in tall golden grass. The other has a father and daughter drifting in a little boat under soft green trees.
These two hang well as a pair over a dresser or changing table. Pull the warm gold of the grass and the green of the trees into the rest of the room, and the wall does the storytelling.
Pairs well with: grandpa's fishing buddy and little angler on the lake.

2. Grandpa's fishing buddy nursery idea
Plenty of families have a grandparent who can't wait to take the baby fishing. This idea gives them a spot on the wall: a child and grandparent on a dock in blazing autumn colors, and a jolly bearded fisherman in a red sweater, holding up his fish like a trophy.
The autumn print brings rust and gold, so wood furniture and a cream wall suit it. The fisherman is bolder and funnier, which makes him a good pick for the wall by the door.
Pairs well with: father and child fishing trip and boy and his dog by the river.

3. Boy and his dog by the river nursery idea
River greens and soft browns run through all three of these oil-painting-style prints. A boy in a flat cap and his brown spaniel fish from a log, show off a catch on an old dock, and sit close while he threads his line.
Of every idea here, this is the one I'd choose if you want the room to still fit at age ten. Warm olive walls, a wood crib and a plaid throw on the chair are all it needs.
Pairs well with: river gallery wall and grandpa's fishing buddy.

4. River gallery wall nursery idea
Want more than one print of that boy and his spaniel? Build a whole wall from them. One print puts the pair in an old wooden rowboat on a still grey lake. The gallery option lets you choose from seven river scenes and hang one, two, three, four or six prints as a set.
A grid of four over a dresser is easier to plan than it looks when every print shares the same moody sky. Keep the walls pale so the deep greens and browns stand out.
Pairs well with: boy and his dog by the river and quiet lake.

5. Little angler on the lake nursery idea
These prints keep the people small and the water wide, which makes for a softer, simpler room. A child in a straw hat sits on the shore with a fluffy pup, both looking out at a pale lake. In the other, a little angler casts from a wooden rowboat under a golden sky.
So much open sky makes these easy to live with above a crib. Pale blue walls, a white crib and a honey-colored rug finish the room.
Pairs well with: father and child fishing trip and quiet lake.

Fishing bear nursery ideas
6. Bear and boy at sunset nursery idea
A bear makes a sweet fishing partner. In one print, a big brown bear and a small boy fish side by side off a dock while the lake turns pink and orange. In the other, the boy sits right in the bear's lap with the rod in his hands.
Sunset prints bring a lot of warmth, so I'd cool the room down with soft blue walls. A wood crib and an oatmeal rug keep it cozy.
Pairs well with: misty morning bear and night fishing under the stars.

7. Misty morning bear nursery idea
Morning light makes these two the gentlest of the bear prints. A bear and a boy stand on a little dock in soft gold mist, and in the second print the bear leans over to help a small boy with his rod beside a forest stream.
Pale greens and creams suit this idea, and it works for a girl or a boy without changing a thing. Hang the two side by side over the crib in matching frames.
Pairs well with: bear and boy at sunset and little angler on the lake.

8. Night fishing under the stars nursery idea
Bedtime is when these prints come into their own. A bear and a boy fish from a dock under a sky full of stars, and in the second print they stand in a forest stream while fireflies glow all around them.
Deep blue is a cozier nursery color than people expect, especially with warm wood and a cream rug. Add a small lamp with a warm bulb and the room glows the way the prints do.
Pairs well with: fishing for stars and bear and boy at sunset.

9. Bear in a boat nursery idea
Here the bear fishes alone, and the room gets quieter for it. One bear fishes on a calm mountain lake, one has dozed off in a navy rowboat with its rod still in its paws, and one casts from a striped red canoe over a crowd of bright fish.
The sleepy bear is the one I'd put over the crib. The red canoe print is the most playful of the three, so save it for the wall by the changing table.
Pairs well with: storybook animal anglers and bear family at the river.

10. Bear family at the river nursery idea
Real bears fish too, and these prints show it with plenty of charm. A mother bear and two cubs splash after fish in a rushing river under blue mountains, while a pale bear sits on a rock by a waterfall, proud of the salmon in its paws.
Moving water brings energy, so balance it with plain walls and a soft rug. Both prints suit a woodland nursery as well as a fishing one.
Pairs well with: bear in a boat and woodland friends go fishing.

Animal angler nursery ideas
11. Woodland friends go fishing nursery idea
A fox and a raccoon share one fishing rod in a little boat, and a child paddles a canoe past a moose standing in the shallows. Both prints are in soft watercolor tones with lots of white around them.
They're light enough for a small or dim room. Sage walls and a natural wood crib let the orange fox and the brown moose stand out.
Pairs well with: storybook animal anglers and bear family at the river.

12. Storybook animal anglers nursery idea
These three look like pages from one picture book, each on cream with a navy band of water and small fish below.
An otter sits on a rock with a fishing rod and no luck yet, a bear rows past in a wooden boat, and a deer rows by with a little lantern glowing at the bow.
Clean shapes and plenty of cream make these the easiest prints here to pair with modern furniture. Repeat the navy in one cushion or a basket and stop there.
Pairs well with: bear in a boat and woodland friends go fishing.

13. Arctic ice fishing nursery idea
Cold-weather fishing makes a cool, fresh color story. A big white polar bear holds a fishing rod with a penguin snuggled at its side, and a proud little penguin hugs a pink fish against icy blue.
Aqua and white feel bright without being loud. It's a sweet choice for a winter baby, and the penguins keep it playful as your child grows.
Pairs well with: fishing for stars and storybook animal anglers.

14. Fishing for stars nursery idea
For a dreamier take, swap the lake for the night sky. An astronaut sits on a crescent moon casting a line among the stars, and a baby elephant drifts in a little rowboat holding a glowing star.
These are fishing ideas in spirit more than in detail, which makes them a gentle way to mix two themes. Navy walls and soft gold accents tie them together.
Pairs well with: night fishing under the stars and arctic ice fishing.

Lake, boat and fish print ideas
15. Quiet lake nursery idea
Some parents want the feeling of a lake weekend without any characters at all. One print is almost all water: a tiny figure fishing from a small boat, a pale sun and dark hills. The other is a log cabin on a turquoise lake with a rowboat pulled up on the shore.
No prints in the post are calmer. With warm white walls and natural wood, they'll suit the room long after the baby years.
Pairs well with: little angler on the lake and river gallery wall.

16. Harbor and fishing boat nursery idea
Not every fishing family heads to a lake. These prints go to the coast: a child on a dock watching a green and white fishing boat, a white duck standing on stacked lobster crates in a harbor village, and two kids rowing a red boat through bright waves.
Blue and white is the backbone here, with a little red for fun. Hang the boat print in the middle and the other two on either side.
Pairs well with: sage and blue fish print and quiet lake.

17. Sage and blue fish print nursery idea
Sometimes the fish is the whole idea. A largemouth bass sits on sage green and a speckled trout on soft blue, each in a loose watercolor-style look with ink-line detail over a background of looping swirls.
Prints like these are simple enough for a baby and specific enough for the kid who will one day tell you which fish is which. They suit a gender-neutral room.
Pairs well with: pink and coral fish and harbor and fishing boat.

18. Pink and coral fish nursery idea
The same swirl background comes in softer colors too. A blue-grey bluegill swims across blush pink, and a coral red snapper sits on mint green. If you'd like more, the pastel fish gallery lets you pick one, two, three, four or six prints from eight fish designs.
Pink and coral make this the fish idea that leans softest for a girl, though the mint keeps it fresh. Four in a grid above the dresser is my favorite way to hang them.
Pairs well with: sage and blue fish print and arctic ice fishing.

A fishing nursery for a baby boy, a girl, or either
Fishing suits any baby, so most of these ideas work for a girl or a boy. For a baby boy fishing nursery, I'd start with the boy and dog, grandpa's fishing buddy, bear at sunset or harbor rooms.
For a girl, the father and child idea has a father and daughter print, and the pink and coral fish, little angler and woodland friends ideas lean soft. To keep things open, the quiet lake, misty morning bear, sage and blue fish and storybook animals ideas sit right in the middle.
Choosing fishing nursery decor for the walls
Most of the work in a fishing nursery happens on the walls. One large print on its own, or a set of two or three in matching frames, covers most nursery walls. Over a crib or a dresser, a row of three is the easiest layout to get right.
Our fishing prints come in three shapes: tall portrait, shorter portrait and landscape. Keep one shape per row so the frames line up. Every one of these prints comes unframed or framed in natural, walnut, white or black oak, so a mixed set of fishing nursery decor can still look like one family.
If fishing is one idea among several, the fishing section of my nursery themes guide shows how it sits next to 70 others.
Hanging wall art safely in a nursery
Hang wall art with its center about 57 inches from the floor, and leave 6 to 8 inches between the bottom of the frame and any furniture below it (Architectural Digest). In a nursery I bring that a little lower, so the art reads at a seated eye level from the rocker.
Keep the crib itself empty except for a fitted sheet (NIH Safe to Sleep). For art near the crib, my own rule is simple: hang it securely and out of reach, using proper hardware rather than tape or one small nail. Anchor dressers and bookcases to the wall too (CPSC, 2025).
Fishing nursery questions parents ask
What colors go with a fishing nursery?
Lake blue, sage green, warm wood and cream are the easy base. Sunset and autumn prints add coral, rust and gold, and the night prints bring in navy. Each idea above lists three colors to start with.
Is a fishing nursery gender neutral?
It can be. Rooms built on a quiet lake, a bear in the morning mist or simple fish prints suit any baby, and they grow easily into a toddler room. The father and daughter print and the pink fish lean toward a girl.
What goes in a fishing themed nursery besides wall art?
Not much. A wood crib with a fitted sheet, a soft rug, a plaid or knit throw on the chair and maybe a small wooden boat on a high shelf. Leave real fishing gear out of the room and let the prints tell the story.
How many fishing prints should go on a nursery wall?
One large print or a set of two or three works on most nursery walls. For a bigger wall, a grid of four from one series, like the river or fish galleries, fills it without looking busy.
How high should you hang fishing prints in a nursery?
Hang art with its center about 57 inches from the floor and 6 to 8 inches above furniture (Architectural Digest). Keep the crib empty except for a fitted sheet (NIH Safe to Sleep), and hang any art near the crib securely and out of reach.
Will a fishing nursery grow with my child?
Yes, and that's one of its best points. The boy and his dog prints, the quiet lake and the fish prints all suit a big-kid room, so you can swap the crib for a bed and keep the walls as they are.
