Most nurseries I design have one awkward bit of wall: the tall, narrow strip beside the window, or the gap between the closet and the corner. A bunny or a bear looks lost there. A giraffe doesn't, because it's already the right shape.
Giraffes bring their own colors too. Their tan and cream coats sit happily next to sage, blush, dusty blue or bold teal, so the same animal can lead a soft pink room, a calm blue one, or anything in between.
Below are 25 giraffe nursery ideas in four groups: by color, by style, giraffe families and friends, and giraffes on an adventure. Each comes with three colors and the prints that make it work. To see every option at once, browse our giraffe nursery decor collection of more than 60 prints.

Planning a giraffe nursery, step by step
Whatever the colors, I build every giraffe nursery in the same order.
- Fall for one print first. The giraffe you keep coming back to decides the colors and the mood, so the rest of the room has something to follow.
- Borrow three colors. Pull one for the walls, one for the big furniture and one small accent. Every idea below names three to start you off.
- Use the height. Giraffe prints look best in tall frames. Put one large print in a narrow spot, or stack two, one above the other, beside a window.
- Keep patterns to one. Spots are already a pattern. If the art is spotted, keep the bedding and rug plain or softly striped.
- Think two years ahead. A giraffe outlasts most baby themes. Choose art you'd still hang in a toddler room and you won't be redecorating at two.
Giraffe nursery ideas by color
1. Sage green giraffe nursery idea
Green and tan were made for each other, and these prints prove it: a giraffe framed in sage gingham, two giraffes resting under a wide acacia, and one stretching up into a leafy treetop.
Sage is the color I reach for when parents want calm without beige. Paint one wall a soft green, keep the furniture in pale wood, and the spotted coats do the rest.
Pairs well with: jungle leaves giraffe and quiet watercolor giraffe.

2. Blush pink giraffe nursery idea
Pink and giraffe spots sit together more easily than you'd think. There's a sleepy giraffe in a pink bow, a long neck wrapped in a gingham scarf, a smiling giraffe in wildflowers, and one sneaking into the frame over pink stripes.
That last print is my peekaboo pick. Hang it at the end of a row, so the neck looks like it's leaning in to see the baby.
Pairs well with: pink garden giraffe and pastel sunset giraffe.

3. Pink garden giraffe nursery idea
For a room full of flowers, start here. One print shows a giraffe in a meadow with the words "fearfully and wonderfully made" across the bottom, another stands under a tree of pink blossoms, and a mother and baby graze in a folk-art garden.
Choose soft green and white furniture so the flowers stay the star. A floral crib sheet is plenty; skip floral curtains on top of it.
Pairs well with: blush pink giraffe and mama and baby giraffe.

4. Pastel sunset giraffe nursery idea
Some of my favorite giraffe prints are mostly sky. Picture two small giraffes on a green plain under pink clouds, a line of giraffes walking beside a pink river, and zebras and giraffes drinking at a rosy waterhole.
The animals are tiny, which keeps the room quiet. Pull lavender and mint from the skies for bedding, and these work for a girl or for anyone who loves soft color.
Pairs well with: blush pink giraffe and watercolor savanna giraffe.

5. Dusty blue giraffe nursery idea
Blue-grey skies turn giraffes calm and grown-up. In these, a mother lowers her head to her calf, a family of three stands on a quiet plain, and two giraffes walk through blue mountain mist.
I love this look for a boy's room that doesn't want to be loud. Warm white walls and a walnut dresser keep the blues from feeling cold.
Pairs well with: mama and baby giraffe and grey and white giraffe.

6. Teal and orange giraffe nursery idea
Here the giraffes go graphic: flat teal shapes, a big orange sun, and almost no detail. A mother bends to her calf, two giraffes nuzzle, two more cross necks, and a navy giraffe stands against a setting sun.
Mid-century furniture suits these, especially warm wood with tapered legs. Repeat the orange once, in a pillow or a lampshade, and stop there.
Pairs well with: golden sunset giraffe and bright and bold giraffe.

7. Golden sunset giraffe nursery idea
Dark giraffe shapes against an orange sky read from across the room. You get a family under an acacia tree, a family of three side by side, and three giraffes running at dusk.
Silhouettes carry a lot of color, so the rest of the room should be quiet. Cream bedding, a natural wood crib and a single amber lamp are all it needs.
Pairs well with: teal and orange giraffe and earthy brown giraffe.

8. Earthy brown giraffe nursery idea
Brown has a bad reputation in nurseries, and these prints are my case against it. A golden giraffe walks inside a striped border, a spotted one bends to greet a bluebird, and two more stand in tall golden grass.
Pair them with oatmeal linen, cane and honey wood. The room feels warm in winter and still light in July.
Pairs well with: golden sunset giraffe and watercolor savanna giraffe.

9. Grey and white giraffe nursery idea
If color makes you nervous, a soft grey giraffe is a safe place to start. The prints here: a winking giraffe holding a red apple, a pale giraffe beside a tree, and a sketch-style giraffe peeking through a truck window.
Grey and white works well in a small nursery because it keeps the walls feeling light. Add one green plant or a sage throw and the room comes alive.
Pairs well with: dusty blue giraffe and quiet watercolor giraffe.

10. Bright and bold giraffe nursery idea
Not every giraffe has to be beige. One has rainbow patches for spots in thick brushstroke styling, one is made of mosaic shapes on blue, and one glows against a wall of golden leaves.
Bold art is easiest when it gets one wall to itself. Keep the other walls white and the furniture simple, and the color reads as joyful instead of chaotic.
Pairs well with: teal and orange giraffe and silly giraffe.

11. Watercolor savanna giraffe nursery idea
A big swirling sun does a lot of work in these. Tiny giraffes walk a path under it in one, stand on a sunny ridge in another, and stride past acacia trees in the third.
The washed watercolor tones of sand, peach and gold are easy to live with. Hang all three in a row and the sun repeats across the wall like a little story.
Pairs well with: earthy brown giraffe and pastel sunset giraffe.

12. Quiet watercolor giraffe nursery idea
When the brief is "peaceful", I go here first. Each print gives the giraffes plenty of room: one beside a tall, thin tree, two in golden grass under a lavender sky, one stepping through fallen autumn leaves.
Lots of pale background means these suit a small room or a slanted ceiling. Pale oak, white bedding and a cream rug keep the whole nursery soft.
Pairs well with: sage green giraffe and grey and white giraffe.

13. Folk-art cowboy giraffe nursery idea
Teal, red gingham and scalloped frames give these prints a cheerful folk-art style. A giraffe twirls a lasso, another wears a cowboy hat, two cross necks into a heart, and a whole family poses in hats under a starry arch.
This one is a theme with a sense of humor, and it suits a girl or a boy. A red gingham crib sheet and a natural wood rocker finish the look.
Pairs well with: twin giraffe and retro checkerboard giraffe.

14. Retro checkerboard giraffe nursery idea
These look like old sports posters, thanks to checkered borders in red, green and gold and a vintage-illustration style. One giraffe holds up a trophy, one is mid golf swing, and one drives a little yellow golf cart.
They're fun now and still right in a ten-year-old's room. Keep the walls cream so the borders stay crisp.
Pairs well with: sporty giraffe and folk-art cowboy giraffe.
15. Jungle leaves giraffe nursery idea
Big leaves bring the jungle in without a jungle mural. A giraffe face peers out from green foliage, a long neck leans in over palms inside a blue border, and a laughing giraffe stretches up to nibble a treetop.
Leafy prints love real plants, so give them a tall one in a basket, well out of reach. A green or rattan lamp keeps it all in the same family.
Pairs well with: sage green giraffe and giraffe and safari friends.

Giraffe families, pairs and friends
16. Mama and baby giraffe nursery idea
Parent-and-calf prints are the tender heart of a giraffe nursery. These show two giraffes crossing necks over a calf on a blue sky, a family touching heads at sunset, and two tall parents arching over their little one in warm sepia.
Hang one large print above the glider, where you'll look at it at three in the morning. It earns that spot.
Pairs well with: dusty blue giraffe and pink garden giraffe.

17. Twin giraffe nursery idea
Two giraffes side by side is an easy way to say "twins" on the wall. Here, a pair dances face to face, two in gingham and stars wind their necks together, and two dapper giraffes in bow ties share a gold frame.
For a shared nursery, hang one print over each crib and keep the frames the same. The pair on the wall matches the pair in the room.
Pairs well with: folk-art cowboy giraffe and mama and baby giraffe.

18. Giraffe and safari friends nursery idea
A giraffe makes a good host for the rest of the safari. A zebra and giraffe press cheek to cheek, a gazelle stands at a giraffe's feet, and an elephant and giraffe ride in an old truck while a sloth hangs from the tree above.
If you're torn between a giraffe nursery and a safari one, this is the answer. Let the giraffe lead in the biggest frame and let the friends fill in around it.
Pairs well with: jungle leaves giraffe and road trip giraffe.

19. Sleepy giraffe nursery idea
Bedtime prints belong above a crib. One shows a baby giraffe curled up asleep, one a sleepy giraffe smiling with its eyes shut on soft yellow, and one two giraffes resting together at sunset.
Sleeping animals set the mood without asking for attention. Add blackout curtains, a dimmable lamp and muted bedding, and the whole room says "time for sleep".
Pairs well with: quiet watercolor giraffe and mama and baby giraffe.

Giraffes on an adventure
20. Road trip giraffe nursery idea
What does a giraffe do in a car? Stand up, obviously. One print has a giraffe riding in a vintage truck with its neck far above the roof, and in the other a sloth hugs a giraffe in the back of a brown pickup.
These lean toward a boy's room, though they work for anyone who loves a car. Add a toy truck on the shelf and the theme grows into the toddler years.
Pairs well with: giraffe and safari friends and up in the sky giraffe.

21. Up in the sky giraffe nursery idea
Give a giraffe wings and you've got a travel nursery. A giraffe pilot stands beside an old biplane on sage hills, and a stack of gingham hot air balloons carries a monkey and a giraffe through the clouds.
Soft sage and sky blue suit both prints. They also sit nicely with any airplane art you already have.
Pairs well with: road trip giraffe and outer space giraffe.

22. Seaside giraffe nursery idea
Giraffes at sea make no sense, which is exactly why kids love them. One stands at the helm under a blue gingham sail; the other sails at night on a navy watercolor sea under the stars.
This is a coastal nursery with a twist. Navy, white and sand keep it simple, and a striped rug finishes the boat feel.
Pairs well with: outer space giraffe and dusty blue giraffe.

23. Outer space giraffe nursery idea
Long necks are handy in orbit. In one print a giraffe wears a bubble astronaut helmet, and in the other a giraffe climbs a ladder toward a string of planets with a monkey helping.
Pair these with a deep blue ceiling or a soft star nightlight. The giraffe keeps an outer space theme gentle enough for a baby.
Pairs well with: up in the sky giraffe and seaside giraffe.

24. Sporty giraffe nursery idea
For a family that lives at the ball field, these giraffes play too. One wears striped socks and dribbles a soccer ball, one slam-dunks in a number 12 jersey, and a purple-spotted giraffe balances a tennis ball on its nose.
Sports prints grow up well, so this nursery can turn into a big-kid room with no new art. Keep the colors to two or three so the room doesn't look like a locker.
Pairs well with: retro checkerboard giraffe and silly giraffe.

25. Silly giraffe nursery idea
Some giraffes are just here to make you laugh. One wears round yellow glasses, one sits on a park bench with a zebra, a rabbit and a leopard in sunglasses, and two bend down to sip from a swirling blue waterhole.
Toddlers point at these for years. Hang one beside the changing table, out of reach, where it can buy you thirty quiet seconds.
Pairs well with: bright and bold giraffe and sporty giraffe.

Giraffe nursery ideas for a girl, a boy, or a surprise
Giraffes suit any baby, which is a big part of their charm.
For a girl, the blush pink giraffe, pink garden giraffe and pastel sunset giraffe rooms lean softest, and the folk-art cowboy giraffe room adds a little fun. For a boy, parents often pick the dusty blue giraffe, road trip giraffe, sporty giraffe or outer space giraffe ideas.
Keeping it a surprise, or simply want a room that suits any child? The sage green giraffe, earthy brown giraffe, watercolor savanna giraffe and quiet watercolor giraffe ideas sit right in the middle.
Choosing giraffe nursery decor for the walls
In a giraffe nursery the walls do the heavy lifting, so I settle them before the crib sheet or the rug. One large print on its own, or two or three in matching frames, covers most walls. Giraffes are tall, so portrait frames nearly always beat wide ones.
The backgrounds matter more than the giraffes. A teal giraffe next to a watercolor one next to a folk-art one reads as three different rooms. Three giraffes on the same dusty blue read as a set.
Every print in this post comes unframed or in natural, walnut, white or black oak, so matching frames is easy. Browse the full giraffe nursery decor collection to build your set.

Giraffe rugs, bedding and lamps: how much is enough
Parents ask me about giraffe rugs, giraffe bedding and giraffe lamps almost as often as the art. My answer is to pick one giraffe piece beyond the wall, not all three. A spotted rug, spotted sheets and a giraffe lamp in one room is where a theme turns into a costume.
For the rug, choose something soft enough to crawl on, like a washable low pile or wool, in a sand or cream from your prints.
For bedding, a plain or gingham fitted sheet in one of your three colors does more than a giraffe print would. A giraffe plush is lovely on a high shelf, out of the crib.
Hanging wall art safely in a nursery
Hang wall art with its center about 57 inches from the floor, and leave 6 to 8 inches between the bottom of the frame and any furniture below it (Architectural Digest).
In a nursery I bring that lower, to about 48 inches at the center, so the art reads at a seated eye level from the rocker.
Keep the crib itself empty except for a fitted sheet (NIH Safe to Sleep). For art near the crib, my own rule is simple: hang it securely and out of reach, using proper hardware rather than tape or one small nail. Anchor dressers and bookcases to the wall too (CPSC, 2025).
Giraffe nursery questions parents ask
What colors go with a giraffe nursery?
Start with the tan and cream of the coats, then add one color you love. Sage green, blush pink, dusty blue and teal with orange all work. Each idea above lists three colors to start with.
Is a giraffe nursery gender neutral?
Yes. A giraffe suits any baby, and a room built on color or style rather than pink or blue grows easily into a toddler room. The sage green, earthy brown and watercolor savanna ideas are the most neutral.
How do I decorate with giraffes without overdoing it?
Let the wall art lead, then add just one more giraffe piece, like a rug, a lamp or a plush on a shelf. Keep the bedding plain and the room still reads as a giraffe nursery.
How many giraffe prints should go on a nursery wall?
One large print or a set of two or three works for most nursery walls. Because giraffes are tall, two portrait prints side by side over a crib or dresser often fill the wall better than three small ones.
How high should you hang giraffe prints in a nursery?
The usual rule is a center about 57 inches from the floor and 6 to 8 inches above furniture (Architectural Digest). In a nursery I hang lower, centered around 48 inches.
Keep the crib empty except for a fitted sheet (NIH Safe to Sleep), and hang any art near the crib securely and out of reach.
Will a giraffe nursery still work for a toddler?
It will. Giraffes don't feel babyish, and the sporty, road trip, retro checkerboard and silly giraffe ideas suit a three-year-old even better than a newborn.
