Hello there! I'm Lee Orlian, an interior designer by profession and the proud founder of this store.
I've dedicated a large part of my career to crafting spaces that don't just look good, but also make your little one feel good.
Today, I want to share some insights about a game-changer in any child's room: blackout curtains, a must-have nursery item. Let's delve into why these are essential for your little ones and how they can make your parenting journey a bit easier.
If you're a parent to a young child, you know how precious sleep is - both for them and for you!
What if I told you there's an unassuming hero that can help improve sleep quality and overall peace in your home?
Enter blackout curtains. Designed to block out almost all external light, they are essential to a child's nursery. Why, you ask?
Well, science tells us that darkness is crucial to our sleep cycle. The darker the room, the more potential for a good night's (or nap) sleep.
Moreover, these curtains also help reduce noise and maintain room temperature, making them a practical addition to any room.
Beyond the science of sleep, let me share how blackout curtains have made a difference in my life and how they could make a difference in yours.
Improved Sleep Quality
Ever tried getting a baby to sleep when the summer sun is still shining brightly at 8 PM? I have, and let me tell you, it's a challenge.
Once I installed blackout curtains in my toddler's nursery, bedtime became much easier. The curtains created an illusion of night, tricking my little one's biological clock into sleep mode.
Creating a Conducive Sleeping Environment
There's something incredibly calming about a dimly lit room, isn't there? Blackout curtains help create a tranquil, peaceful environment that's just perfect for your child's sleep.
Reducing Outside Disturbances
From that annoying streetlight that shines right into your child's room to the occasional car headlights flickering in, there's a lot that can disturb a peacefully sleeping baby.
Blackout curtains have been my personal guardian angels, keeping those disturbances away.
One surprising bonus I discovered with blackout curtains is their energy-saving capabilities. They help keep the room cool in the summer and warm in the winter, reducing reliance on air conditioners and heaters.
When it comes to crafting a nurturing environment for your little one, every detail matters. Here are some considerations for selecting the perfect nursery blackout curtains.
Color and Design
Picking a design that suits your child's room is important. It should resonate with the room's overall theme and decor. That's why we offer the largest design selection online, featuring various themes, colors, patterns, and styles.
What's unique about our store is our ability to customize designs. Since we print fabric per order, we can tweak the colors of any pattern found in our store to suit your needs better.
Can't find a specific design you have in mind in our store? Don't worry! Reach out to us and we'd be thrilled to help bring your idea to life.
We believe safety is of paramount importance. That's why all our curtains are made of 100% cotton, a safe, non-toxic, and child-friendly material. When you buy from us, you can rest assured that your child's well-being is our top priority.
The size of the curtains plays a significant role in how effectively they block out light. While we offer pre-selected sizing options on our site, we understand that every window is unique.
To cater to this, we provide custom sizing. All you need to do is reach out to us with your requirements. Our team will assist you in figuring out the right size and provide you with a price quote.
No matter the size of your window, we've got a solution for you.
So, you've decided to take the plunge and get nursery blackout curtains, the perfect window treatment for your child's room. Now, how to make sure you get the right fit?
Here's a guide I've put together to help you measure correctly.
Begin by installing your curtain rod. It should be positioned around 4" to 6" above the top window trim. It's also important to ensure it extends about 3 "-6" from each side of the window. This gives a pleasing aesthetic and ensures that light doesn't sneak in from the sides.
The width and length of your curtains are paramount to ensure complete coverage and a pleasant look. For the width, aim for a total curtain width that is 1.5x to 2x the width of the window.
This gives a nice fullness to your curtains and ensures the entire window is covered when the curtains are closed.
Let's say you have a 35" wide window, you would want to consider two panels each 27 "W (for 1.5x fullness) or two panels each 35 "W (for 2x fullness).
As for the length, remember the extra inches where you installed the rod above the trim? Make sure your curtain includes that additional 4" to 6". Then, it should extend at least 1" below the window sill to effectively block light.
If you prefer the "floor kiss" style, measure from the rod to the floor, and subtract 0" to 1" depending on how much of a "kiss" you want.
Are blackout curtains safe for toddlers and babies?
Absolutely! Our curtains are made from safe, non-toxic materials and are designed with child safety in mind. Just ensure they are securely installed and out of reach from your little ones.
How can I choose a blackout curtain that matches my child's room decor?
As an interior designer, I'm always happy to help my customers with design selection. You can email me photos of your child's room (firstname.lastname@example.org) or even schedule a free 15-minute video consultation. Together, we'll find a design that harmonizes beautifully with your room's aesthetic.
Can blackout curtains help my child sleep better?
They certainly can. By creating a dark, tranquil environment, blackout curtains can help improve your child's sleep quality. How do I measure my window correctly for blackout curtains?
Start by measuring the width of your window. For fullness, choose curtains that are 1.5 to 2 times the width of the window. Next, measure the length. The curtain should start 4-6" above the window frame and extend at least 1" below the sill.
If you prefer the "floor kiss" style, measure from the rod to the floor, and subtract 0" to 1".
Do you offer custom-sized blackout curtains?
Yes, we do! If you can't find the perfect size among our pre-selected options, simply reach out to us with your window measurements. We'll help you determine the right size and provide a price quote.
How long does it take for a customized curtain order to be ready?
Our curtains, whether pre-selected sizes or custom orders, are all made to order. They typically take 5-10 business days to process and ship.
Are blackout curtains only available in dark colors?
Not at all! Our blackout curtains can come in any color. The fabric's color doesn't influence its blackout properties as we sew a dedicated blackout lining to the back of the fabric.
Can I use blackout curtains in an adult's room?
Yes, of course! Our curtains come in various designs that can enhance any room - living room, dining room, bedroom, you name it.
Many of our customers start with their child's room, but once they experience the quality of our curtains, they also choose us for other rooms in their homes.
Do I need a special curtain rod for blackout curtains?
No special rod is required for our blackout curtains - any standard curtain rod will work.
However, if you aim to optimize the blackout effect, consider installing a rod that curves at the end, often referred to as a wrap-around or blackout curtain rod. This design can help prevent light from sneaking in at the sides.
I invite you to explore our store's wide range of blackout curtains, the ideal window coverings.
