Modern Coastal Art
Modern coastal art for kids who want the ocean on their wall but don't want it looking like every rental beach house. Surfing cats on checkerboard borders, gouache palms in primary colors, minimalist pastel sunsets, a dolphin mid-air in teal and orange. Bold, graphic, contemporary.

Modern Coastal Art Picks from Our Collection
Scrolling thumbnails only tells you so much. Below, we break down 10 standout pieces, what makes each one work, and how to pair them in your child's room.
Retro Surf Felines
Two calico cats in goggles, one carving the barrel of a blue wave on a yellow board, the other strutting across its own wave under a giant red sun. Black and white checkerboard borders with a red inset and matte black frames. Graphic, punchy, and fully contemporary.
Hangs great over a twin bed or a reading corner in a slightly older kid's room, especially if the rest of the palette is muted. Pairs with denim, terracotta, and natural oak.
Surfing Calico Cats
A companion set to Retro Surf Felines: same checkerboard borders, same calico cats, different poses. One cat balances mid-air off the crest of a wave, the other carves deep in the barrel. Natural wood frames this time, so the set reads slightly warmer.
Strong in a teen room, a playroom wall behind a beanbag, or flanking a bunk bed. Two prints, designed to hang side by side without guesswork.
Seaside Bull Terriers
Two matching prints of white bull terriers on a coastal day. In one, the mother runs through shallow surf with her pups mid-leap beside her. In the other, the family stands on wet sand under a soft sage sky. Painterly, clean, and very cohesive.
The quieter half of this collection. Works well in a toddler's room on a pale wall, or as a calm pairing across a hallway from one of the graphic cat sets. Pairs with honey wood and cream linen.
Vibrant Tropics
A jungle of palms in loose, confident gouache-style strokes: green, deep blue, buttery yellow, coral, and flame-orange fronds against a cream backdrop. No horizon line, no shore, just the canopy itself, flat and graphic. Black frame holds the color in place.
The loudest piece on the list, in the best way. Use it solo in a playroom, over a crib with quieter pieces beside it, or as the one piece that decides the whole room's palette.
Island Hues
Folk-art style painting of a little tropical bay: a pink stucco cottage tucked between palms, coral flowers in the foreground, a calm inlet with boats in the distance, a pink and lavender sunset sky. Warm, painterly, contemporary folk.
Great in a kids' room with warm wood tones or a shared sibling space. Pairs well with palm tree wall art and other warm-toned scenes.
Pastel Vista
A sunset stripped down to its essentials: horizontal bands of pale pink, peach, and butter yellow, a white sun hovering low, soft sage mountain shapes, a pastel reflection on still water. Almost flat, almost abstract. Natural wood frame.
The neutral piece in a bright-palette collection. Excellent over a changing table, next to a loud piece like Vibrant Tropics, or in any nursery where the rest of the room has the personality already.
Koala Kahuna
A grey koala standing on a quiet beach with a coral-red surfboard tucked under one arm. A sailboat drifts in the bay behind him, tropical leaves frame the edges, the sky is that muted beachy blue that never looks dated. Clean modern illustration, natural wood frame.
Happy on a nursery wall or a toddler's beach-themed room. Pairs easily with quiet pastels and sand tones.
Midnight Sea Trio
Three pale seahorses clinging to a branch of white coral against a deep navy backdrop. Shot like a museum specimen, quiet and slightly ghostly. The darkest piece on this list, and the one that makes everything hung next to it look brighter.
Works beautifully in a kids' room that leans a little dramatic: navy walls, dark wood, or brass accents. A good counterpoint to the bright pieces on this page.
Leap of Joy Dolphin
A pink and teal dolphin caught mid-arc over a turquoise wave, with a vivid orange and coral sunset behind. Thick painterly strokes, primary energy, zero subtlety. It's the piece that wakes up a flat wall.
Sits well in a playroom, a toddler's room with a warm accent wall, or anywhere the parent has given up pretending the kid doesn't want color.
Ocean Light Rocks
Heavy white waves crashing against a rocky coastline, a soft grey sky overhead, and two tiny figures standing near a small lighthouse on the cliff edge. Loose painterly strokes, muted palette, contemporary feel. It reads like wide-brush energy with very few rules.
A quiet anchor piece. Good in a big kid's room with other muted ocean scenes, or as the single moody print in a mostly-bright wall. Pairs well with lighthouse wall art and other coastal pieces.
