A rose themed nursery works best when the roses stay on the walls and the rest of the room stays quiet. Choose one rose print you love, take two or three colors from it, and let the furniture, rug and curtains follow those colors.

Below are 18 rose themed nursery ideas in four groups: by look, storybook rooms, animals among the roses, and rooms with a story to tell. Each one comes with three colors and the prints that make it work. To see every print at once, browse our rose nursery decor collection.

How to pull a rose nursery together

I follow the same four steps for every rose room, whether it ends up blush and sweet or sage and quiet.

  • Start from one rose print. A single print hands you the colors and the mood together. Build the room outward from it.
  • Take three colors from it. One for the walls, one for the big pieces and one accent. Every idea below lists three to start you off.
  • Add one green. Roses come with leaves. A sage or leaf green in a rug, a dresser or a plant keeps a pink room from feeling sugary.
  • Keep the patterns to the walls. Floral wallpaper, floral bedding and floral curtains all at once is a lot. Let the art carry the roses and keep the textiles plain or striped.

Rose nursery ideas by look

1. Rose swing nursery idea

Swings wrapped in climbing roses are the softest way into this theme. One print shows an empty swing hanging under a canopy of blush blooms, another a fairy swinging through the clouds on a rose vine, and the third a little ballerina resting on a rose-covered cloud swing.

Hang the three in a row over the crib and the wall tells one gentle story from left to right. Pale pink walls and white furniture keep the room light, and the sky blue in the prints gives you an easy second color.

Colors: blush, rose pink and cloud blue

Pairs well with: rose fairy and ballerina rose.

2. Secret rose garden nursery idea

Some parents want the feeling of stepping into a walled garden. For them there's a row of slim rose trees with bluebirds, two white ducks waddling down a stone path between rose bushes, and a gallery set of blush garden scenes you can mix yourself.

Green does a lot of work here. Pair the pinks with a soft leaf green on a dresser or a rug border, and the room reads as a garden rather than a pink room with flowers in it.

Colors: petal pink, leaf green and path stone

Pairs well with: rose swing and woodland rose.

3. Shabby chic rose nursery idea

If you'd rather skip characters altogether, go straight to the flowers. These prints are all blooms: trailing branches of dusty pink with one full vintage rose at the base, a dense spray of peony-like roses and sage leaves, and a set of soft peach blossom panels.

Floral prints without a story feel calm over a crib and grow up easily, because nothing in them is babyish. Add a white painted dresser and a linen glider and you have a soft cottage room.

Colors: dusty pink, sage and linen

Pairs well with: sage green rose and vintage rose and thistle.

4. Sage green rose nursery idea

Roses look different on sage green. A tiny wren perches on a single wild rose, a yellow bird flies toward a cream rose, and a gallery of songbirds and pale blooms shares the same grey-green ground.

This is the rose idea that leans least pink, so it's the one I suggest when parents want flowers without a girly room. Warm white walls, light oak and a cream rug finish it.

Colors: sage, cream rose and butter yellow

Pairs well with: shabby chic rose and vintage rose and thistle.

5. Vintage rose and thistle nursery idea

For an old-world look, these prints frame rabbits inside cream ovals ringed with roses and thistles, all in fine sepia sketch tones. One shows two hares racing across a field, another two rabbits by a pond with their reflections below.

Sepia is a gift in a nursery because it goes with every wood tone and every textile. I like these with a walnut crib, a faded floral rug and a single pink accent, like a cushion.

Colors: sepia, parchment and faded rose

Pairs well with: sage green rose and woodland rose.

6. Moody painted rose nursery idea

Dark backgrounds make roses glow. These oil-painting-style prints show two fairies pouring tea in a thicket of deep pink roses, a fairy tumbling through oversized blooms in a splash of golden drops, and a fairy in a gold dress perched on a floral teacup.

A deeper palette suits a room with good light. Keep the walls warm white so the prints read like windows into a garden at dusk, and pick up the greens in a velvet cushion or a dark wood frame.

Colors: deep rose, forest green and gold

Pairs well with: fairy tea party rose and unicorn and mermaid rose.

7. Pink and blue rose nursery idea

Blue keeps a rose room from tipping into all pink. A white cat gazes up at a swirling blue rose, a bluebird sits beside a nest of speckled eggs among pink roses, and blue dragonflies skim a pond lined with rows of roses.

Blush and blue calm each other down, which is why I come back to the pair so often. Try pale blue walls with blush bedding, or the reverse.

Colors: cornflower, blush and leaf

Pairs well with: rose swing and rose and wildflower meadow.

8. Rose and wildflower meadow nursery idea

A meadow feels looser than a formal rose garden. One print fills the bottom half with a field of pink roses and wildflowers while bees and butterflies drift above, and the other shows a vine of blush roses with butterflies and a small bluebird.

Both prints leave plenty of pale sky, so they work well in a small room or above a changing table where you want something soft at eye level.

Colors: meadow pink, grass and sky

Pairs well with: secret rose garden and pink and blue rose.

9. Rose fairy nursery idea

Fairies and roses belong together. A tiny fairy sleeps curled inside a blush rose, another flies past in a dress made of rose petals, and a gallery of pale sky fairies lets you build a whole wall around them.

The sleeping fairy is the one I'd hang over the crib, since a sleeping figure sets a bedtime mood. Keep the furniture white and the rug pale so the soft pinks stay soft.

Colors: rose petal, pearl and moss

Pairs well with: rose swing and ballerina rose.

10. Fairy tea party rose nursery idea

These two prints are packed with detail. In one, a group of fairies holds a tea party on a giant leaf under a canopy of yellow and pink roses; in the other, a fairy in a golden gown swings among white blossoms with roses blooming below.

Both have warm, sunlit greens and golds, so they suit a room with honey wood and cream walls. Children tend to spot something new in them as they grow.

Colors: sunlit green, rose and honey

Pairs well with: moody painted rose and rose fairy.

11. Ballerina rose nursery idea

Ballet and roses share the same soft pinks. A dancer in a full pink tutu sits at the center of a round garden of roses and daisies, another twirls with rose petals drifting around her, and a third girl holds a lace parasol in a dress made of rose petals.

This idea suits a little girl who will grow into the room, because the prints feel sweet now and still feel right at six. Add a small upholstered bench and a blush curtain.

Colors: tutu pink, mauve and ivory

Pairs well with: rose fairy and rose swing.

12. Unicorn and mermaid rose nursery idea

A pink-maned unicorn prancing through a garden of roses and a mermaid with a crown of pink roses curled on a blush tail bring a touch of fairytale.

Two prints side by side are enough here; they carry a lot of character on their own. Pull the gold from the unicorn's horn into a lamp or a mirror frame.

Colors: unicorn blush, sea mint and gold

Pairs well with: ballerina rose and moody painted rose.

Animals among the roses

13. Woodland rose nursery idea

Forest animals look sweet surrounded by roses. A red fox sits among roses and ferns, a pink hedgehog rests in a patch of roses with textured brushstroke styling, and a pink bunny sits up between roses and blue flowers.

All three share the same blush ground, so they hang well as a set of three over a dresser. A sage rug and a little natural wood keep the woodland side of the idea.

Colors: fox rose, fern and blush

Pairs well with: secret rose garden and vintage rose and thistle.

14. Safari rose nursery idea

Safari animals among roses sound unlikely until you see them. An ostrich stands in roses and blue wildflowers, a gazelle with long ridged horns walks through more roses while bluebirds circle, and a meerkat keeps watch over a small meadow.

Parents who love a safari theme but want it softer often land here. The blush ground keeps it gentle, and the animals keep it from feeling too sweet.

Colors: blush, savanna tan and bluebell

Pairs well with: woodland rose and playful rose.

15. Cottage farm rose nursery idea

Climbing roses and farm animals feel like a country garden. A proud white goose stands beside a weathered fence post wound with pink roses, and another goose waits by a mint green car with its trunk full of roses and daisies.

The pair hangs well on either side of a window. White beadboard, a gingham cushion and a pale green dresser all suit this one.

Colors: mint, climbing rose and weathered wood

Pairs well with: secret rose garden and rose cowgirl.

16. Playful rose nursery idea

Not every rose room has to be serious. A dalmatian in a red bow tie holds a single rose in his mouth, a lilac skunk offers up a red rose on olive green, and a gallery of pups on starry blush lets you add a dog or two.

These prints make guests smile at the door, and toddlers love them. Use one red accent from the roses, like a toy basket, to tie them together.

Colors: starry blush, rose red and olive

Pairs well with: safari rose and woodland rose.

Rose nurseries with a story to tell

17. Faith and roses nursery idea

For a nursery with a verse on the wall, these prints set scripture inside roses: a wreath of dusty pink roses and butterflies around a psalm, an arch of pale pink roses with two bluebirds over a proverb, and a soft owl on a rose branch above a line from Jeremiah.

Words in a nursery read best when they're kept to one print or a matching set. I'd hang the wreath alone over the crib, or all three in a row over a dresser.

Colors: dusty rose, soft sage and periwinkle

Pairs well with: rose swing and pink and blue rose.

18. Rose cowgirl nursery idea

Roses turn a western room soft. A mint cowboy boot is covered in painted roses with a daisy tucked inside, a blonde horse wears a pink rose and pastel ribbons braided into its mane, and a pastel cowgirl gallery adds boots, hats and horses in the same colors.

Choose it if you want a room that's a little bit country and a little bit sweet. A cream rug, a wood crib and one woven basket keep it relaxed.

Colors: mint, desert sand and rose

Pairs well with: cottage farm rose and playful rose.

A rose nursery for a girl, a boy, or either

Roses lean toward a girl's room for most families, and the softest picks for a girl are the rose swing, rose fairy, ballerina rose and unicorn and mermaid rose rooms.

Expecting a boy, or keeping it a surprise? The roses can still stay. The sage green rose, vintage rose and thistle, safari rose and playful rose ideas use cream, sepia, sage and tan as much as pink, so they sit comfortably in a room for any child.

A nursery for a baby named Rose

When the baby is called Rose, Rosie or Rosalie, the theme picks itself. I'd hang the sleeping rose fairy or the rose swing print over the crib, then put her name on something soft, like a cushion or a blanket, rather than adding another print.

The name and the art then tell the same story without crowding the wall.

Turning a rose nursery into a garden themed nursery

A rose nursery is one step away from a garden themed nursery. Keep the roses as the main flower, then add the things you'd find around them in a real garden: birds, bees, rabbits and a stone path. The secret rose garden, rose and wildflower meadow and woodland rose ideas already do this.

The trick is to keep one flower in charge. A garden room with roses, tulips, daisies and sunflowers all at the same size starts to feel busy. If you're still deciding on flowers, the flower themes in my nursery themes guide put roses next to wildflowers, botanicals and more.

Choosing rose nursery decor for the walls

Wall art does most of the work in a rose nursery, so get the wall right before you buy anything else.

My rule of thumb is one large print on its own, or a set of two or three in matching frames. Over a crib or a dresser, a row of three is the easiest layout to get right.

Mixing rose prints is fine as long as the backgrounds match. Three different rose scenes on the same blush ground read as one set; three on three different backgrounds look accidental. Most of our rose nursery decor shares the same sizes and frame choices, so a set is simple to build.

If you love a little shine, rose gold and brass work well as small accents in a rose room: a lamp base, a mirror frame or drawer pulls. Keep it to two or three touches so the roses on the wall stay the main event.

Hanging wall art safely in a nursery

Hang wall art with its center about 57 inches from the floor, and leave 6 to 8 inches between the bottom of the frame and any furniture below it (Architectural Digest). In a nursery I bring that a little lower, so the art reads at a seated eye level from the rocker.

Keep the crib itself empty except for a fitted sheet (NIH Safe to Sleep). For art near the crib, my own rule is simple: hang it securely and out of reach, using proper hardware rather than tape or one small nail. Anchor dressers and bookcases to the wall too (CPSC, 2025).

Rose nursery questions parents ask

What colors go with a rose themed nursery?

Blush pink, dusty rose and a soft sage green are the classic trio, with cream or warm white on the walls. For something less pink, try sage and cream, or sepia and parchment. Each idea above lists three colors to start with.

Is a rose nursery only for a girl?

No. The sage green, vintage rose and thistle, safari and playful ideas use roses alongside cream, tan and green, so they suit any baby and grow easily into a toddler room.

How do I keep a rose nursery from looking too busy?

Keep the roses on the walls and the textiles plain. One floral element at large scale, like a set of prints or one wallpapered wall, is enough. Add a single green to calm the pinks.

How many rose prints should go on a nursery wall?

One large print or a set of two or three works for most nursery walls. A matching set of three in a row over a crib or dresser fills a wall without looking crowded.

How high should you hang rose prints in a nursery?

Hang art with its center about 57 inches from the floor and 6 to 8 inches above furniture (Architectural Digest). Keep the crib empty except for a fitted sheet (NIH Safe to Sleep), and hang any art near the crib securely and out of reach.

What is the difference between a rose nursery and a garden themed nursery?

A rose nursery puts one flower in charge. A garden themed nursery adds what grows and lives around it, like birds, bees, rabbits and paths. You can start with roses and grow the room into a garden as your child gets older.
